B-17E #41-9100 Birmingham Blitzkrieg, assembly aircraft of the 379th BG, Kimbolton, autumn of 1944. Originally, the aircraft operated with the 414th BS / 97th BG from 11th April 1942. It was one of twelve Fortresses that took part in the first VIII BC mission on 17th August 1942. Later on the 24th August 1942 the machine was sent to the CCRC at Bovingdon. In the summer of 1944 the bomber was assigned to the 525th BS / 379th BG where, painted in white and red stripes, and coded FR●U, it was used as the group’s utility and assembly aircraft. After the war Birmingham Blitzkrieg was salvaged on 18th June 1945.
